Celebration of World Soil Day for Creating Awareness on Soil Erosion

KVK Cuttack celebrated World Soil Day 2019 on the theme “Stop soil erosion, Save our future” at Maritime Museum, Jobra in association with ATMA, State Agriculture Dept., Advenz, KRIBHCO and ICRISAT, Hyderabad on 5 December 2019. 103 farmers and 32 delegates and state government officials from agriculture, horticulture, and soil conservation department participated in this event. Dr Ashok Kumar Mohanty, the Chief District Agriculture Officer presided over the function and elaborated about the importance of the day and soil conservation measures needed for optimizing our soil health. Dr DR Sarangi, OIC, KVK requested the farmers and farmwomen to adopt Soil Health Card, need-based nitrogenous fertilizer application by using CLCC, use of vermicompost, organic and biofertilizers to improve the soil fertility. Dr Biswajit Nanda, the Chief General manager of Paradeep Phosphates Limited briefed the audience about the importance of soil testing. Smt. Hiranmayee Sadangi, the Soil Chemist discussed in detail the importance of soil sampling. Dr Moses Shyam, Scientist, ICRISAT, and Sri Arvind Singh, Chief GM, KRIBHCO, discussed various aspects of soil health and soil erosion. Dr RK Mohanta coordinated the workshop and meeting. One hundred soil health cards were distributed among beneficiaries on this occasion.
