Skill Training on ‘Production Technology of Vegetables under Protected Structure’

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Cuttack organized a 3-days skill training for 25 no. of rural youth on “Production technology of vegetables under protected structure” at KVK campus, Santhapur under ARYA project (EAP-291) from 3-5 February, 2020. The objective of conducting training under Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) is to attract and empower the youth.in rural areas to take up various Agriculture, allied, and service sector enterprises for sustainable income and gainful employment. The 25 no. of rural youths were selected from Tangi-choudwar, Badamba, Kantapada block of Cuttack district, and actively participated in this skill training program. The training module was developed and all classes were imparted by the training coordinator, Dr Tusar Ranjan Sahoo, SMS (Horticulture). The participants were trained about seedling raising techniques under hi-tech nursery, construction of low-cost protective structures, plant protection measures inside polyhouse, off-season vegetable cultivation and economics of vegetable production under the protected structure. The participants got all practical oriented skill training related to operate drip irrigation, trellis system of vine growing, plug tray nursery raising and disease, pest diagnosis inside protected structures. Every participant was allowed to get through pretest and posttest evaluation for their self-assessment. It was found 57% changes in their knowledge level after completion of the training. Some emerging participants expressed their wishes to set up entrepreneurial units under ARYA for income generation. In the valedictory function, Dr RK Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science) encouraged all rural youths and advised them to promote protected cultivation in this changing climate scenario and distributed certificates to the participants.
